Spire Radio was formed in 2015 as Chesterfield’s only community radio station. Throughout this time we have trained over a hundred volunteers in roles from radio presenting to events management and much more, and now we’re bringing this expertise to everyone.
From April 2021, we have partnered with the Chesterfield FC Community Trust as part of their Reboot program. This gives 16-24 year olds that aren’t in education or employment the opportunity to gain experience in an area they’d like to have a career in. Over the 12 week program, we’ll introduce participants into the world of radio, guiding them through the process of planning, producing and eventually presenting a show live on Spire Radio.
We are able to tailor the program for participants with more focused interested, allowing them to get involved in specialist areas such as news and sports reporting, marketing (including updating our website and social media sites) or audio production to name just a few. This helps maximise the benefit to the individuals taking part in the program.
At the end of the 12-week traineeship, we offer all participants an interview to become a Spire Radio volunteer for a longer-term.
Jordan Hartshorne, Spire Radio’s Managing Director will be running the courses and commented on their benefit, “Our traineeship program will allow young people to gain vital media experience with a local provider. We identified the lack of opportunities in the media in the area and wanted to help young people take that first step into the industry.”
