In May 2014, Nicola Goodwin was diagnosed with Relapsing Remitting Multiple Sclerosis. (MS)
Multiple Sclerosis is a condition of the central nervous system. The immune system mistakes the myelin (a substance that protects the nerve fibres) for a foreign body ad attacks it. This damages the myelin and strips it off the nerve fibres either partially or completely leaving scars known as lesions. The damage disrupts messages travelling along the nerve fibres – they can slow down, become distorted, or not get through at all.
There is currently no cure for MS.
On the 24th of June, Nicola and a few of her work colleagues will be walking 5 peaks (11.4 miles) in 5 hours. They will be starting at Buttermere and walk over High Snockrigg, Robinson, Dale Head, High Spy and Maiden Moor.
Donations will be happily received
Nicola was on Spire Weekend Breakfast with Alan Wilkinson on 17th June 2017. Listen back o the conversation here;
