Real Time… our culture, owned by musicians Mark and Niki Stephenson dedicated to encouraging music participation and bringing music to the local community. Real Time is hub from which you can buy musical instruments, have them repaired, be taught how to play them in the teaching suites and gig upstairs at Real Time Live, Chesterfield’s only dedicated live music venue and the premier music venue in the East Midlands area. Combining high quality, purpose built premises with the very latest digital sound desk, everything at Real Time Live has been designed and engineered with both the artists and the customer in mind.
Five years ago Mark and Niki bought the derelict premises 13 Marsden Street and began a total transformation from new roof to new floors, and the work still continues transforming existing outbuildings into a new larger Guitar Repair Workshop.
Musically, Real Time is excited to announce it’s new collaboration is with Spire Radio.
Spire Radio was taken over by the Rykneld Group in July of 2016. Owned now by Amy Hartshorn, Chris Walters and Stephen Mahoney. The Spire team have a great passion for Music, local community and giving opportunities to local musicians. They have an amazing team of over 35 volunteers who Present and provide technical support and the Music is broadcasted via internet and App. Spire have recently introduced a “Live Lounge” on a Saturday which gives an opportunity for local musicians to come on air and perform their music.
Amy Hartshorn, FD of Spire said “It felt like such a natural step to collaborate with Real Time. Having met with Mark and Nikki, it soon became apparent that we all shared the same local community ethos, and had very similar ideas about what we wanted to offer to musicians locally. We love what Real Time has to offer and it has been an institution locally for many years and is recognised as hot spot for a thriving music culture. Its amazing how you can buy your first instrument, learn to play it and then perform all under one roof. It felt like the natural continuation of the story for Spire to offer these budding musicians air time too, and hopefully get them one step further to achieving their dreams. We are really excited about this partnership, as it also combines both teams, all of whom have a lot to offer in means of support and passion for music. It will combine the Presenters from Real Time and Spire, and offers a real mix of potential for music genres, tastes and performers”.
Chris Walters the programme director of Spire added ” I am really excited about joining forces with Real Time. When we had the meeting with Mark and Niki we knew straight away that it was a great fit. We have so much in common and now we are able to bring the local area some great live music and great radio listening.
This is a unique partnership and we are looking forward to seeing and hearing to the talent from our area. We can offer a full perspective of hearing from the acts building up to the evenings, the gig itself and even get them back on air to discuss how the artist felt afterwards.
The local music scene is really starting to thrive and to team up with Real Time really is an exciting prospect”.
