Exciting news from Spire Radio
Spire Radio is a Community Radio Station which Broadcasts both online via its website and via APP available for download on IOS and Android devices. Spire is operated purely by a team of 35 volunteers who give a little bit of spare time each week to Present Shows, contribute to community events and Provide technical assistance to the team
Our mission is to provide a voice to local community and support local causes. All of our team are passionate about local, and it’s a great honour to feel that in some small way we serve local community. Since July 2016 we have become more involved in the community aspect and have done outside broadcasts at the Boxing4heroes events, compered the Fitness Factory Inaugural awards, hosted Ashgate Heroes, and struck up community partnerships with Chesterfield Football Club and Real Time Music
We love to have local people into our shows for interview and have the great privilege to have a diverse range of guests from local people who simply want to raise money for a cause close to their hearts, local business people who want to discuss their experiences and touring mainstream musicians who are more in the spotlight, and just want to be a part of what we are
We now have over 20,000 listeners per month as well as over 10,000 followers on our social media pages, which is humbling to us
Spire Radio approached Chesterfield College for all of these reasons and more. In the same way that we want to support local community, we also want to support local institutions. We felt that Chesterfield College’s Media, Marketing and Performing Arts departments have a lot to offer, and we have a lot to offer them
We want to give the young people of the college the opportunity to gain work experience from working in a real media environment, and use a range of the skills they have learned to help us further the voice of the station, as well as giving them the opportunity to get involved in a diverse range of fulfilling projects
Spire have also offered the college a regular show slot so that their students can produce a show with their own music choices, content and narrative. This will be a long standing feature on Spire Radio and will allow for many of the students of the College in various departments to get involved over a long period of time. It will hopefully provide them with confidence and experience to assist them along the way to finding the right career path
Spire will also give the students an opportunity to produce advertisements for their growing client list, who for a small nominal fee assist with the overhead costs of the station in return for bi hourly advertising and show sponsorships. We are very privileged to work with people who are equally as passionate about the work we do locally, and are proud to be a part of what we do.
Ebony Pascall, manager of the media and photography department at Chesterfield College has expressed her thanks and gratitude for providing an excellent work experience opportunity for the media students. The students are looking forward to getting involved all elements of Spire Radio. We hope our students will produce a pre recorded show with their own content, allowing them to expand their creativity and learn professional skills in a real working environment. The media department are excited to help contribute and work with Spire Radio.
We very much look forward to the start of this project!
